The 2xN splitters perform the same function as 1xN splitters, except that the coupling is made with two input fibres instead of one. This provides a test port in an installation without having to disconnect and interrupt the traffic on the line.

The 2xN splitters also allow the two signals to be mixed. For instance, the TV signal and the Internet signal in the case of FTTH networks.
